Join the AACA the week of our annual convention for a two-day Safety Management Systems (SMS) course with Chris Young.

Course description:

Effective risk management compels organizations to genuinely examine how they conduct their operations, and the safety decisions made involving those activities. A Safety Management System (SMS) is an organization-wide, comprehensive and proactive approach to controlling negative outcomes as the result of hazard exposure. With this training participants can have a positive impact on their organization’s safety and quality outcomes as well as its business performance. We will examine the new FAA rulemaking for SMS and how it will affect your Part 135 or Part 91 operation.

About the instructor:

Chris is a broker and safety risk management consultant with Pik West Insurance Agency as well as the Executive Director of the Tour Operators Program of Safety (TOPS). He brings 33 years of aviation and leadership experience from the U.S. Navy, helicopter air ambulance, aircraft manufacturing, aviation safety, technical publications and insurance segments with over 2900 flight hours as a pilot. He understands the unique complexities that all types of aircraft operators face when implementing risk management strategies and SMS. He offers practical guidance on conducting safety and quality analyses, hazard assessments, incident investigations, compliance evaluations, continuous improvement opportunities as well as brokering insurance. Chris is an active volunteer in the helicopter safety community as the former co-chair of the USHST Outreach Team and Secretary of the VAI Safety Working Group as well as an advisor to the National EMS Pilots Association Board.
